Here are just a few of the best places to visit this Christmas.
Belfast Christmas Market
The Belfast Christmas Market holds the distinction of being voted the Best Large Specialist Market 2015 by NABMA. It offers guests a large array of arts, crafts, continental food, clothing, décor items, and more. Goods are produced locally and from all over Europe, creating a very festive range of items up for grabs. From pottery to crystals, to satchels, wooden toys, Christmas decorations and more, finding the perfect gift has never been easier. Plus, if you plan your trip right you can also pay a special trip to Santa’s Grotto.
A Magical Christmas Experience at Titanic Belfast
While you may not necessarily link Christmas to the Titanic, the iconic museum helps bring the season to life for children and adults, with a unique event that lasts from the end of November through Christmas. At the museum you will have the chance to play many street games, create your own decorations, visit Santa at the Old Curiosity Shop, and even write him a letter. Children under the age of 13 are given a candy cane, a chat and photo with Santa, a gift, a traditional costume to dress up in, arts and craft time, and more. Adults also receive a treat of mulled wine, or tea/coffee for the drivers, along with a mince pie.
Christmas Fair at The Argory
Hosted by the National Trust Mid Ulster, the Christmas Fair at The Argory is an annual tradition in Northern Ireland and is well attended by locals and visitors alike. For a low admission price, with a large discount for families, guests get to see the house decorated in stunning Christmas style. The Courtyard is full of festive Christmas decorations and activities. It features dozens of stalls that all offer seasonal themed festive goods, and many locally produced items that are perfect for gift giving. In addition, there will be a children’s carousel, Christmas choirs, and carriage rides with Santa.
Santa’s Cottage in the Mourne Mountains, County Down
Santa’s Cottage in the Mourne Mountains has been declared the official home of Santa in Northern Ireland, and for good reason. Situated perfectly in the heart of the snowy mountains, the cosy cottage allows children to get a close look at how Santa prepares for the busy season. Not only can guests sit on Santa’s lap by the fire, and see the kitchen where Mrs. Claus bakes, but they can also visit Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and see the elves in action in the workshop. The Great Hall features a wonderful nativity scene, and at night the lighting is simply spectacular.
